Pentacarbonyliron react with sodium

[Fe(CO)5] + 2Na → Na2[Fe(CO)4] + CO


Pentacarbonyliron react with sodium to produce tetracarbonylferrate(II) sodium and carbon monoxide. The reaction is conducted in a liquid ammonia at a temperature near -40°C [8] (-33°C [16]).
