Calcium hydride react with silicon

CaH2 + 2Si → CaSi2 + H2

Calcium hydride react with silicon to produce calcium silicide and hydrogen.

In the emery crucible, stoichiometrically to heft number of powder CaH2 (to grind in nitrogen atmosphere) and pure Si. The crucible is covered the second inverted corundum crucible in order to the mixture not sprayed. All this set-up in the tube from the mass of Pythagoras in atmosphere of inert gas .Tube is heated by electric oven. Tube is connected with high-vacuum device and the produced hydrogen is removed by continuous pumping-out. Reaction is ends at a temperature 1180°C. When the extraction of hydrogen is stop, the heating continue during half an hour and then supporting the vacuum in system, cooled.
