Iron react with nitric acid

5Fe + 12HNO3 → 5Fe(NO3)2 + N2 + 6H2O


Iron react with nitric acid to produce iron(II) nitrate, nitrogen and water. Nitric acid - a very dilute solution. This reaction takes place at a temperature of 0-10°C. Impurities: - N2O, NH4NO3.
