GeCl4 + H3PO2 + H2O → GeCl2 + H3PO3 + 2HCl


Germanium(IV) chloride react with hypophosphorous acid and water to produce germanium(II) chloride, phosphorous acid and hydrogen chloride. The reaction takes place in a concentrated solution hydrogen chloride.
