Sm + 2NH4Cl + 6NH3 → [Sm(NH3)8]Cl2 + H2


Samarium react with ammonium chloride and ammonia to produce oktaamminesamarium(II) chloride and hydrogen. The reaction is conducted in a liquid ammonia, at a temperature near -78°C.
