ZrSiO4 + 4C «→» ZrC + SiO + 3CO


Zirconium(IV) orthosilicate react with carbon to produce zirconium carbide, silicon dioxide(II) and carbon monoxide. The reaction proceeds heating in electric furnaces to the temperature of about 1900°C.
