2CrCl2 + 10H2O → 2[Cr(H2O)4Cl2]OH + H2


Chromium(II) chloride react with water to produce dichloridotetraaquachromium(III) hydroxide and hydrogen. The reaction proceeds at room temperature. This reaction takes place slowly.
