Fe + 2KOH + 3KNO3 → K2FeO4 + 3KNO2 + H2O


Iron react with potassium hydroxide and potassium nitrate to produce potassium ferrate, potassium nitrite and water. This reaction takes place at a temperature of 400-420°C.
