3HfCl4 + 6H2O → [Hf3Cl3(OH)6]Cl3 + 6HCl


Hafnium(IV) chloride react with water to produce hexahydroxotrichloridotrihafnium(IV) chloride and hydrogen chloride. The reaction takes place in a concentrated solution hydrogen chloride.
