2HgI2 + 4(NH3•H2O) → Hg2NI + 3NH4I + 4H2O


Mercury(II) iodide react with ammonium hydroxide to produce dimercury(II) nitride-iodide, ammonium iodide and water. The reaction takes place in a boiling solution.
