Hg(NO3)2 + 3C2H5OH → Hg(OCN)2 + 2CH3CHO + 5H2O


Mercury(II) nitrate react with ethanol to produce mercury(II) cyanate, acetaldehyde and water. The reaction takes place in a diluted solution nitric acid.
