SiC + 4NaOH + 2O2 → Na2SiO3 + Na2CO3 + 2H2O


Silicon carbide react with sodium hydroxide and oxygen to produce sodium metasilicate, sodium carbonate and water. This reaction takes place at a temperature of over 350°C.
