PI3 + I2 + H2C2O4 → POI3 + 2HI + CO + CO2


Phosphorus(III) iodide react with iodine and oxalic acid to produce phosphorus(V) oxide-triiodide, hydrogen iodide, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. The reaction is conducted in a liquid carbon bisulfide, at a temperature of 40-50°C.
